Allswater Conducting Subsea Foundation Study for Tidal Platforms
Allswater continues its involvement in the tidal energy industry, undertaking a FEED (front end engineering and design) study of foundation installations for the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia. The study focuses on the design and deployment of subsea equipment in high flow regions which have limited infrastructure and heavy lift or DP vessels.
Given the extreme environment at many tidal installation sites, the foundation must be a substantial structure, and the associated costs are a major portion of a tidal energy development. The basis of the study is to consider innovative foundation designs and installation methods that allow the use of local marine contracting resources, thereby reducing the project costs.
The study is providing the opportunity to work with many talented people in diverse fields such as geotechnics, civil design, hydrodynamics, marine and subsea contracting and energy development. All team members have shown a strong interest in the project, and a passion for their work.
Allswater strongly believes in supporting change to improve the environment through renewable energy development. With the foundation FEED study, combined with the conceptual and detailed design of tidal platforms – big and small, Allswater is fortunate to be involved upfront in the tidal energy industry, from seafloor to surface. We look forward to the next steps in these projects, leading to hardware in the water in the near future, and to future tidal energy projects in Nova Scotia and worldwide.
