Allswater Starts the Detailed Design of the Triton Tidal Energy Platform

Allswater is pleased to announce the start of the detailed design of the semi-submersible Triton Tidal Platform for Black Rock Tidal Power. The Triton Platform will be host an array of Schottel Hydro turbines generating up to 2.5 MW of power. The first Triton platform is planned for installation at the FORCE site on the Bay of Fundy and is scheduled to begin providing tidal energy to Nova Scotia in 2017.

The platform has two spar buoys that provide buoyancy and house both electrical and mechanical equipment for the installation. The platform is attached to a gravity base with a universal joint, allowing the array to align to the direction of the flow.

The platform will be maintenance friendly by allowing the spar buoys to transition from the vertical operating position to the horizontal maintenance position with the use of water ballast.

Allswater are proud to be part of this exciting and innovative project. Although it’s technically not a ship … it’s still very cool. #shipsarecool
