CSL orders more Trillium Class vessels
Canada Steamship Lines has decided to build two additional self-unloading vessels, bringing the total to four in its major fleet-renewal program.
The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway carrier has two of these self-unloading lakers currently under construction at Chengxi Shipyard in Jiangyin City on China’s Yangtze River. They are scheduled for delivery in autumn 2012. The newly announced vessels will enter service in spring 2013.
Features planned for the new vessels include a Tier II main engine that increases fuel efficiency and reduces nitrogen oxide and particulate matter. Its hull design maximizes cargo lift, fuel efficiency and maneuverability. The vessel has the latest generation self-unloading equipment, and fuel tank cofferdams increase spill protection of fuel and oil, while the variable speed fixed pitch stern and bow thrusters improving maneuverability and safety. The shaft generator helps to reduce consumption of fuel oil.
Allswater worked with CSL in 2005 and 2006 for the initial design on the vessel and review with Chengxi shipyard.
