IT Infinity Sets a New Standard in Offshore Cable Repair

The IT Infinity has officially launched and is now fully operational, offering a much-needed solution for offshore cable repair in the energy and telecommunications sectors.
This two-year project transformed a versatile offshore supply vessel into a specialized mid-sized cable repair ship, addressing a critical gap in North American waters.
When IT International Telecom Marine identified a need for a mid-sized vessel with the capabilities of much larger ships, they turned to Allswater to bring the concept to life. Drawing inspiration from similar vessels globally, the goal was clear: create a purpose-built ship for North American offshore cable operations.
Allswater led the project from the initial concept and engineering stages through to shipyard construction. Working closely with the client and Vard Brattvaag Shipyard in Norway, the IT Infinity was converted into a state-of-the-art vessel that redefines efficiency and versatility in offshore cable repair.
Specialized Features for Complex Operations
Now operational, the IT Infinity boasts cutting-edge features designed to meet the specific challenges of offshore cable repair:
- Structural tanks for carrying power and data cables.
- A reverse-lay system to retrieve, inspect, repair, and redeploy cables seamlessly.
- A cable plow and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to support secure cable burial and underwater inspections.
- An upgraded DP2 station-keeping system, ensuring precise positioning in demanding conditions.
These features, typically found on much larger vessels, are now integrated into a mid-sized design that offers the agility and functionality required for North American offshore environments.

Expanded Capacity for Continuous Operations
The IT Infinity’s conversion also included significant enhancements to support around-the-clock operations. The vessel now accommodates up to 60 personnel, with expanded living quarters, a shelter deck, and additional working spaces. These upgrades create an efficient and comfortable environment for extended missions.
A Collaborative Success
From creating classification-approved design documents to supporting shipyard production, Allswater played a key role in ensuring the project met all technical, operational, and safety standards. The result is a vessel that exceeds expectations and delivers exceptional performance for offshore cable repair.
With its advanced capabilities and mid-sized design, the IT Infinity is poised to transform the way offshore cable repair is conducted in North America. This successful conversion highlights the power of collaboration, innovation, and meticulous planning in delivering tailored marine solutions.
