Oil Recovery Barge Design

Allswater completed the detailed design for a series of new build aluminum oil recovery barges. These vessels were specifically designed to operate in shallow and inland waterways, where draft is limited. The design also considered the need for the barges to be easily transportable by flatbed truck to various oil recovery sites. Throughout the design phase, the efficiency of the structural design was a top priority to ensure the barges were lightweight, optimizing both operational performance and ease of deployment

  • Strength Optimization: Utilized Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize the structural strength of the barges, ensuring they could withstand operational stresses while maintaining a reduced weight.
  • Structural Design: Developed comprehensive structural design calculations and detailed drawings, laying the foundation for a robust and efficient vessel design.
  • Outfitting and Lifting Arrangements: Engineered outfitting and lifting arrangements to facilitate safe and effective handling during deployment and operations.
  • Towing Arrangement: Conducted towing arrangement calculations to ensure the barges could be securely and effectively transported, whether by water or flatbed truck.
  • Class Approved Design Package: Delivered a fully class-approved design package, meeting all necessary regulatory requirements and industry standards, ensuring the vessels were ready for operational use.
