An Ambitious Rebuild That Renewed Every Major System

A 90-foot expedition yacht that marries the rugged capability of a true ocean passage-maker with the sophistication of a luxury finish. Originally built to Lloyd’s Rules, she was acquired in 2020 for a complete transformation—an ambitious rebuild that renewed every major system, from structural and electrical to electronics and interior design.

The challenge was to modernize every aspect of the vessel to meet the expectations of its new Owner while preserving its proven oceangoing capabilities and honoring its traditional layout and character. The transformation began with a shipyard docking in Nova Scotia, followed by extensive work completed while the vessel remained afloat in Halifax. Final finishing touches, including the specialized paint application, were carried out at a New England boatyard.

The Modernization included:

  • Bridge Transformation: Redesigned for enhanced space and seating, featuring all-new electronics and state-of-the-art multifunction displays for both the wheelhouse and flybridge.
  • Crew Comfort: New quarters designed to accommodate additional crew, complete with bulkheads, piping, furnishings, and full outfitting.
  • Electrical Overhaul: Complete rewiring and rebuilding of electrical systems throughout the yacht.
  • Smart Connectivity: Installation of advanced IT systems, including internal voice communication, secure networking, and integrated camera surveillance.
  • Global Communications: New cascading external systems enabling seamless transitions between satellite, cellular, and automated shore-based Wi-Fi connections.
  • Climate Control: Entirely new, energy-efficient HVAC system with integrated waste-heat recovery from both HVAC and machinery systems.
  • Advanced Monitoring: Installation of a Maretron yacht management and monitoring system for real-time oversight.
  • Quiet Mode Capability: New battery bank and inverters allow silent operation for ultimate comfort.
  • Environmental Systems: New sewage treatment plant and complete piping system for compliance and sustainability.
  • Safety First: Upgraded fire detection and suppression systems throughout the vessel.
  • Hot Water Innovation: Added storage tank with three segregated heat exchangers powered by main engines and generators.
  • Power & Propulsion: Main engines, generators, pumps, and purifiers rebuilt or replaced for peak performance.
  • Hydraulic Systems Upgrade: Replacement of all hydraulic equipment and control lines, including thrusters, stabilizers, stern platform, deck crane hydraulics, and steering systems.

Allswater worked closely with the Owner, providing detailed engineering and on-site construction support throughout the project’s development. Every detail was carefully considered—preserving the vessel’s iconic character while reimagining its interior for maximum functionality and comfort. Leveraging advanced LiDAR scanning, our design team ensured absolute precision and provided immersive visualizations so the Owner could experience the transformation before construction began.

The result is a true expedition-class vessel, rebuilt from the ground up to deliver redundancy, reliability, and the comfort of a modern yacht—while retaining the proven pedigree of its original Doggersbank design.
