Saputi II: Ongoing Progress and Operational Training Program

Following her successful launch at Freire Shipyard in Vigo, Spain, Saputi II now floats proudly at the outfitting berth — marking another major step forward in the construction of Qikiqtaaluk Fisheries Corporation’s (QFC) new Arctic trawler.
With the hull complete and systems installation well underway, the project has entered one of its busiest phases yet. Shipyard crews are currently working across all areas of the vessel, including piping, insulation, equipment installation, and electrical systems. Most recently, the wheelhouse was installed — a visible sign of steady progress as the ship moves toward completion.
Earlier this month, members of the Allswater team visited the shipyard to review progress alongside Harry Flaherty, President and CEO of QC (Qikiqtaaluk Corporation). Seeing the vessel afloat for the first time and the scope of work underway was an exciting milestone for everyone involved.
In addition to our roles in project management and construction oversight, Allswater is developing an operational training program for QFC crews. This program will cover vessel-specific systems, procedures, and daily operations to ensure crews are fully prepared for Saputi II’s entry into service—minimizing production delays during startup.
In 2026, Saputi II will officially join QFC’s fleet, advancing sustainable fishing in Arctic waters and creating meaningful economic opportunities for Nunavut communities.
